Organizations

Astronomical organizations, hundreds or even thousands of them, have many kinds of activities. There are communities arranging local activities, national central organizations and finally worldwide major organizations. Astronomy clubs at schools as well as astronomical associations, for instance, are local operators. Private astronomy hobbyists and enthusiasts plus clubs and associations are members of national organizations. The most well-known example of these in Finland is URSA (Astronomical Association).

Worldwide, there are a few huge and well-known organizations, such as NASA, ESA and ESO. They have activities on many fields, for instance: astronomy research, findings, provision of material and education. Moreover, there are organizations specialized in education and production of materials for schools; for instance, EAAE.

All organizations have websites that introduce the supply of their materials, research results and contacts. Many of these suppliers have a special section for educational needs: materials needed in schools, educational entities, as well as observation results.

This section contains a list of the most well-known organizations.
